Do you have a .eu domain? Today someone from the SEO agency team is looking at .eu domains and whether they have any SEO value.
Our research has uncovered most .eu domains were registered to prevent
cyber squatters or in a land grab capacity. Many of the .eu domains
will be pointing to already established company domains and few will be
used in their own right. This is probably the main reason why we don't
see many .eu results in the SERPS (search engine results pages).
There have been discussions about .eu domains for years. However most SEOs
agree that a domains TLD has no impact on how well a domain ranks. The
reason .com domains rank well is because they are the oldest. Older
domains are always better for SEO. .com domains are preferred by
webmasters because type in traffic is most likely to use .com or
sometimes in the UK .co.uk.
There is no reason why a .eu domain should not rank well if you follow all
the SEO rules for a well optimised site. One thing to remember is often
the .eu version of a site will be competing against the same domain in
either .com or .co.uk version and sometimes both and these domains are going to be older and more likely to have more back links.
How can you get .eu domains to rank better?
If you register a .eu domain you can get better rankings on google.co.uk
if you host it in the UK. You can also set Google webmaster to target
the UK. If you build back links from UK sites this will also help.
Don't forget you must also have unique relevant content with a site
that can be easily crawled and indexed by the search engines.
