SEO Services: Lost on Google
BDR London had been providing SEO services to a new client who was at their wits end. They had worked with one SEO agency after another promising to get them good rankings. So when they came to us we had a very tough job to build their confidence that we could provide a good SEO service where others had failed.
It was a very interesting project for us because the site had been built using the very popular open source ecommerce solution Zen Cart. Anyone that performs SEO on a CMS (content management system) will know they are plagued with duplicate content issues. The developers had customised the Zen Cart so it was exactly what the client wanted, but had paid no attention to the SEO requirements.
BDR took a fine toothcomb to the site and worked with the developers to get rid of the duplicate content. All the while we were continuing with the building blocks of SEO, content writing and a comprehensive link building, PR and traffic driving strategy. Almost as soon as the duplicate content was eradicated we began to see our site ranking in Google on the first page for our target keywords.
We initially thought the site might be in the Google sandbox. This is because the site was ranking very well in Yahoo and MSN but had failed to achieve equivalent rankings in Google. If you are in the Google sandbox the best advice we can give is to keep going with ethical seo. Add content regularly and continue link building then wait and you will emerge victorious.
We thought we had conquered Google when we started ranking on page 1 for our target keywords. Needless to say the client was ecstatic with the results, as we all were. Results like this when we can turn around a sites performance is what makes us tick at BDR London and gives us a real buzz.
We continued to monitor our rankings very closely as it is a crucial time when results are so fresh. We then had a real shock to find 2 days later, our excellent rankings had all gone. All of our top keywords had completely lost their rankings. We were still raking number 1 on brand and we were achieving poor rankings for some less competitive keywords. We were shocked and thought that we had been sandboxed again.
We left it over night and checked our rankings the following day. To our great delight we were back with top rankings on our chosen keywords. We have researched this phenomenon and have found that we are not the only ones to have experienced a loss in rankings for a day. An explanation for this 1 day disappearing act has been attributed to a Google update.
Needless to say we are keeping a very close eye on this and we will keep you updated if we can find any further explanations to our 1 day disappearance.
